I need more explanation of “minimizing” and “maximizing” to understand the concept.

I don't understand it based on how it was presented in the article. I could do my own research and also just ask ChatGPT. ;-)
Minimize is to represent or estimate at less than the true value or importance.
"You are making a bigger deal about this than is warranted."
Maximize is to make as large or great as possible.
"You are downplaying the seriousness or importance of this."
